When silence
is the inspiration for a new space
Inspired by silence and spirituality, and created for this very purpose, this is where body, mind, and spirit come together at the Buchinger Wilhelmi
fasting clinic in Marbella.
Fasting is an incredible way to connect with oneself. It requires a personal silence that begins in the body, continues in the mind, and is consolidated in the spirit. It is a three-pronged experience that brings lucidity to the senses, calms the body,
and provides inspiring mental clarity.
The Room of Silence
is a commission that has been designed as a space away from noise, connected to art and nature,
and as a receptacle for related activities such as meditation, yoga, tai chi, etc.
It is a personal space for knowledge and the prelude to a change of perspective towards understanding the sublime.
Our project
The interior design project for the Room of Silence is a proposal that aims to give silence – and its uses – its own identity and aesthetic within the Buchinger Wilhelmi universe.
To create spaces that provide an ideal environment and the right rhythm based on the concept of silence and its definitions, and to structure circulation and distribution based on uses and activities. To emphasise the transitions between inside and outside through materials and transparencies, creating alternative rhythms. To be able to be, to distract oneself, to waste time and to enjoy oneself, with active awareness. The project consists of three basic spaces: the living room, the porch and the pond, with nature as the backdrop.
The pond welcomes us, and the water and nature help us to understand the space from another point of view. It invite us to pay attention. The porch (ENGAWA) serves as an interval to understand and feel the silence, bringing the user from the outside world inside, in an intimate transition. This space features a long table for various activities, as well as a more relaxed area that offers visitors different options so that each person can choose their own type of silence. The lighting in this area is subtle and precise.
Finally, the main silent room (DOJO - MA), located opposite the main entrance to the House of Inspiration, with different flooring, an ikebana arrangement and discreet lighting, provides the ideal environment for meditation, relaxation and silence. However, it is also a multipurpose room with the possibility of dividing the space with curtains to host talks, concerts and other events.

Helios
Antoni Arola designed HELIOS for the Room of Silence. It is a project that tries to capture the light of the sun and bring it inside, in a physical and symbolic way, to create awareness. It is an ode to natural light as a source of health, spirituality and presence.
